Danny and Stefanie Thomas bought Current Inc., a West Plains electrical / HVAC shop, in 2015 (Danny had started there as an electrician). In 2018 they built a new shop on U.S. 63 and, at the urging of employee Alan Stocki (also spelled Stockey in local news), launched an internet arm because local options were poor. The first product was tower-based wireless; demand outran the original plan, and crews found themselves climbing towers across Howell and neighboring counties. Current Inc. grew from a handful of employees toward the mid-30s as the ISP scaled. FCC 499 records list Current Electric, Heating and Air Inc. d/b/a Current Inc. and the trade name Current High Speed, with Danny Thomas as CEO and a West Plains highway address.

Fiber started later. Local reporting says the first fiber-optic network went in at Arrowhead Lakes in 2021. After ARPA broadband money arrived, Current Inc. won a roughly $9.46 million grant to build in Oregon County — a project the company later said it finished a year early and under budget, connecting 1,500+ previously underserved homes. At a grant celebration, management cited about 1,730 active wireless-plus-fiber customers, 262 wireless towers, and more than 114 miles of mainline fiber already in the ground, with plans to add hundreds more fiber miles toward Rover, Many Springs, Thomasville, Woodside, and the Eleven Point River.
